Welcome to the third edition of the "LCIF LEDGER". As you may recall in the first edition I explained what LCIF is, what it does and how it accomplishes its mission. The important fact to remember is that we as lions are key to the success of LCIF through fundraising and service projects. Local lions clubs, districts and multiple districts are the vehicles for the good works of LCIF.  In the second edition I recapped the monetary contributions of District 23-B to LCIF (nearly $1.1 million) and LCIF grants received ($160,000.00).

In this edition I would like to briefly highlight LCIF activity in the recent earthquakes in Haiti. LCIF has provided over $2 million to local Haitian and Dominican Lions Clubs to help them aid their stricken brethren and to other Lions Districts around the world in their efforts to send relief supplies. Notably, the Lions of Sweden (MD 101) have sent hundreds of tents that are serving as temporary shelter for stricken Haitians and for aid workers, and relief supplies are being transported by Dominican Lions to the three tent cities set up by Lions as well as to hospitals and orphanages.

As you can see we in 23-B have been generous in our support of LCIF. We're helping to restore sight to millions around the world and we are helping to rebuild an entire community after a horrific natural disaster. We've also received help in our own district from LCIF in the form of grants that continue to work today in helping those less fortunate than us. As I've said before, the money that is donated goes to Lions at the club, District and Multiple District level, not to governments. That means that every penny goes directly to those who need the help. Let's strive to continue this great legacy of Lions helping those in need by supporting LCIF.

I am available to come to your club or zone meeting to give you more information on LCIF or, better yet, to make award presentations. More information is available on the web at www.lcif.org.

I wish every lion a fruitful and successful lions' year and look forward to seeing you around the district.
